Ok, I’ve read all the input on the Norc 9mm’s, but still can’t quite answer my question, sooooo….

I need a starter 9mm for my daughter (‘teens), smallish hands.

Norc NP17, or M77B (though dad wants the NP20, just for the sake of the ‘cool’ factor…), the only two Marstar has in stock currently…

Who can supply some feedback….?

My 2 Cents...

IMHO... wait for the next shipment of single stack Norc NP-29's... the 9mm on the 1911 frame... you'll be glad you did...

I'm certainly glad I waited for one... ;)

Thanks guys,
I will be getting the NZ85 for me- I am more concerned about the grip size for my daughters smaller hand.

I looked at the NP29’s, but thought that grip safety might cause her some grief- comments…?

You are not aware of the grip safety when you are using the pistol. A NP29 comes with wrap around finger groove grips. Change these to shorten the grip a bit. I have a NP29 and am very satisfied with it. If you could go to a club, or a store, and let her hold various pistols, she could get an idea of what she would be comfortable with.

Terry- thanks for that (with that sig, bet you're from north Van..)
NAA- thanks for the pic- detail shot looks like the grip safety won't be a big deal.

Of course, the kicker is when Marstar will have them in stock- I'll be calling them in the next week or two, but if the M14S schedule holds, my daughter will be collecting CPP before the order gets here.

So...

Based on their current (and perhaps only remaining...) Norc inventory, what’s my best bet for "small hands, big bang".......

I’m also waiting for the next shipment of NP30 high cap .45’s….to add to a CZ 85B order….

Win64- the CZ order (my first preference...) waits until I finish the "2 guns for the price of one" cycle.

Everything I've seen in the forums suggests "value for $" from the Norc product, and with the pressure on with the possibilty of a Fed election, time, and $, count.

I still lust for an old CZ75, w/ wood grips...but it will have to wait until I finish the 'aquire' procurement routine...

Some people complain that the m77b/np20 kick hard so you might want to consider that if its for your daughter. Although the m77b was accurate and reliable, I found the ergonomics sucked. Grip felt strange and the trigger was sharp and would leave my finger sore.

super7,
Thanks for that- that’s what I'm lookin' for.
The daughter hasn't shot alot of handgun, so a 'strange' feel might not be a hurdle for her.

I'm concerned about the anecdotal stories of the 'kick hard' though- I don't want to end up having this piece of kit removed from my daughter’s teeth..

Is there anything you can add to that, ie felt recoil vrs Browning HP/CZ etc

Don't buy ONE NP29 !!

Buy TWO of them. I shoulda taken my own advice and bought 2 of them when Marstar had them in stock. I'm a dummy !!

My wife has small hands too, and after I replaced the arched (rounded) mainspring housing with a flat one, and then slapped on some Pearce Thin Grips, she was happy with the smaller grip. Life is good.

I have two M77B's, both run without a hitch. Only problem is the cheap plastic grip but I have fixed mine with JB Weld. Both guns shoot very accurately and have little to no muzzle flip, all the recoil is straight back. After removing the mag disconnect safety the triggers are a little bit lighter. I now have around 3800 rounds through my orginal M77B, never had any malfunction. I really like them.

I have a hankering to try the whole Norinco line eventually...that finger/trigger guard cocking 9mm will probably end up with me for a while soon...anybody got one for sale or loan? :) I can vouch for the NZ-85b as well, but the grip isn't small (I put Hogues on mine).

As far as arrival times, I enquired with John @ Marstar about the Norinco lever action .22 and was told likely around the end of April. I imagine it'll arrive with everything else Norinco at the same time.

I got my NP-20 (M77-B without the one hand cocker) and I've had one chance to take it to the range so far. It felt quite nice in my hands (though new grips might be in order soon) and as Dar said, the direction of the recoil was wonderful. I'm very new to handgun shooting as it was my first time out with something bigger than a pellet gun, but it was quite easy to put on target.

Pontcanna, I'm usually at the range every second weekend or so in the later afternoon or a Monday/Tuesday around 5:30. If you want to try it out, send me a PM.
