Have her try a semi auto as they tend to be softer shooting compared to bolt and pump rifles.

My wife's Christmas present this year was a Ruger 77 Hawkeye in .308 with walnut stock to add a bit of weight (and she prefers wood). She loves it, especially with the Limbsaver I added. Yes it'll set you back a G-note including scope but I wanted her first "real" rifle (she got a Savage .22 in October) to be something that will last her a while.
