I guess it can be done, but if you bought a .223 to shoot 1000 yds you bought the wrong gun.
I like Varget. It fills the cases completely and I seem to have the best results with it. Then again I am only shooting my .223 at a measly 450 yds and in.
For recipes:
Buy a manual or use manufacturers specs. Don't trust what people tell you. At the very least do a double check on internet-forum based recipes.

The Hornady manual doesn't go above 60 grain bullets right now. I had issues trying to find a load to start with.
Hogdons website has a section where you can look for laods and see what interests you.

There's 90 grain data on Hodgdon's site. You'll have to work up the load for your rifle.
The rifling twist is most assuredly important. As is the rifle. 1,000 yards is a very long way for a .223. The slightest bit of wind will matter.
