Starting off with a 6.5 cr RPR which optic

Ok I have 2 scopes to choose from for my 6.5 ruger precision

It currently has a Burris mtac 6.5x-20×50
But I have a bushnell elite 2.5-16x42 ET2164

which is the better choice of the 2 for long range use and why?

What type of long range use do you intend? Without more specifics it's hard to say. The reticle can make a big difference as will the clarity of the glass.

Use the scope with the clearest glass, higher magnification doesn't always mean it's better

As for intended use just target for now, local range is also only 200sh yds. Be nice to find a spot and reach out a lot farther. The long range aspect of the hobby is new to me so be a learning curve for sure

For 200 yard benchrest it won't matter much. Choose the one with the clearest glass and finest reticle.
