If you get the bug then you will eventually want to upgrade to a holster that cost more than you paid more for your P-85 and gun that costs more than your first car.
I agree that the P85 is very reliable and I have several mags already. I am looking to get something else to use, something not too expensive but good enough to get by. Any suggestions???
If cost is a factor, then I suggest a CZ 75B, 85 or SP-01 in 9mm. Glock 17 is popular and I hear good things about the new M&P 9 from Smith & Wesson. Try a few different guns and see what you like.
Compete and then decide. You will see what everyone is running with and the makeup of the divisions in your area. If production has quite a few competitors than that is a good division if you have an eye for the cost. Production means that the gun came off the assembly line that way it has not been tricked out. Also you will not be penalized for the 9 MM caliber. You could use your P-85 there easily. The best shooter I've seen in atlantic is Clifford Meeks and he using a stock Cz-75 in 9mm
He can shoot that thing like an UZI.
And before I start a flame war over how production is for cheapskates I have seen folks with H and K s that cost more than my VW.
This does not answer your question which is the best gun for IPSC that is not too expensive. Really there is no best gun if there was then everyone would be using it. When you compete there will be lots of competitors using lots of different guns.
Personally I favor a 64 year old colt 1911. Your mileage may vary.
