This will be my second attempt at building a lower reciever. This time I will be asking advice.

What type of stripped lower should I buy? I am looking for something black (not off Colour like NEA). I think forged is the way to go from what I've heard.

Onto the LPK, are there any main differences between any? I'm looking for something with a decent trigger. What do you think I should get?

As for the buffer tube am building a 16" carbine and would like it to be mil spec and 6 position. When it comes to buffer tubes does buying a high quality one make any difference?

Thanks in advance and don't be to shy to tell me what I should or shouldn't do! Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Other then flared magwells and integrated trigger guards, there's not much difference in terms of assembling either Billet or Forged Lowers. Both my Noveske and NEA assembled easily, save for some minor anodizing removal in the Take-Down & Pivot Pin areas on the NEA.

Lowers - Aero Lowers are the hidden gem of Lowers. At roughly $130 from SGW, that price is hard to beat. Also Aero does/has done & still does alot of Forged Lowers for other Companies (DD & BCM at one time). Spikes Tact is another option @ $150 from Questar.

LPK - DD, CMT, AERO, CMMG, Spikes etc are all within Mil-Spec parameters. Aero offers a LPK sans Trigger group if your looking into an aftermarket trigger right off the hop. A Spikes Battle Trigger with it's NiB coating is a cheaper alternative to the typical gritty triggers supplied in LPKs' and far cheaper than $350 range for a Geiselle or HiperFire. Having said that, you can polish the Trigger and replace the Springs with JP Ent kits to help the stock one if you feel the need.

Buffer Tube - Aero, DPMS, LMT (with its' coating), BCM etc are all around the same price. Try to look for a complete kit ie; Buffer Tube, Spring, Castle Nut & Buffer to keep costs minimal. A Mil-Spec tube will give you more Stock choices.

16" Barrel - Aero, DD, Spikes all are good quality. I'm really impressed with the Aero 10.5" I purchased. Depending on whether your going a traditional FSB/M4' gery look or LPG under rail, the AERO LPGB are another steal at $40 roughly. DD & BCM are just as good if you want to spend the extra @$20-$30 however. iIf you go FSB, there's not that much height difference between an "F" marked or regular FSB. Chances are you'll have an easier time sourcing the non F marked. FWIW i run a non F marked FSB on my BCM EAG Clone and don't have any cheek weld problems.

Hope this helps, keep us posted & ask any questions you need.

I found it really valuable to jump the line in LPKs and get a reduced kit.

At the time I already had an aftermarket trigger, didn't need another A2 grip, trigger guard, etc

I got a bare minimum DPMS kit from Saskatoon Gunworks, but they're also the guys I'd go to for Aero.

I'll second the recommendation for the Aero lowers from saskatoon gun works. Great guys to deal with and the Aero lowers are high quality items. Precise fit on my DD mk18 upper build as well as with my Aero 20" barrel build.
