Bullet casting

First thing you need to know is molten lead will almost explode in your face if so much a one drop of moisture is introduced:eek: ,ie: dropping in more metal that isn't 100% dry. Your molds should come with some instructions and advice but I would suggest buying a book on the subject such as Lyman Cast Bullet Handbook. Also adequate ventilation is a must, you dont want to be inhaling lead vapors.:puke: Have fun, it's a craft thats easy to master with practice.

You can search previous posts and in a week or so of mulling around in there you will be up to speed really quick. The Lyman book is really good info to have and ask lots of questions on the other site and you will be casting and shooting in no time flat.
 
Where do you guys buy your molds from? I'm thinking of starting this too, and am looking for an Elmer Keith 44 mag pistol mold. Do these come across the border easily? I would think they are classified as 'tools'?
 
New casters should make sure they have all the safety related, clothes, gloves and a well ventillated area, I prefer outside in a breeze. They should also enlist the help or just watch someone that knows what they are doing. Make sure that you will shoot enough in the future to make it worth your while.
 
and you should include a "heavy metal" contaminant test to your annual physical.Lead has a way of building up in the system fast so just to be on the safe side..
