I am sure they will be sold to collectors

While you're trying to be sarcastic, I'm pretty sure someone out there is flying to Syria right now since these rifles are literally free for grabs...

Either that or Nicholas Cage will get his hands on them and resell to people he knows.

Holy F**K  My understanding is a lot of WWII German Arms made their way to the Middle East and Africa after the war via the Soviets (they also had Panzer 4's dug in as bunkers on the Golan Heights).

Syria attacked Israel with Pz IV's, I think Israel had the Super Sherman and the Centurion at the time. Sucked for the Syrian tankers.

Unless they found a warehouse full of ammo for them, I don't see any use. I wonder if they can be converted to 7.62x39? Their goes any value to collectors if they can!

My thoughts as well, however the guy in the Syria picture does appear to have one ready for action.

The Iraq picture looks a bit odd btw, photochop?

I don't think so, I found multiple accounts of stg44's, including US troops seizing them from insurgents.

I'd love to dig up a pzkmfw 4 and drag it home from Syria. Imagine the shipping!

No, I'm sure anyone sending weapons would send modern weapons, that don't fire an esentially obsolete caliber. These are relics, albeit awesome ones!

+1, 4000 AK's would be a lot cheaper and would probably get spread out among the locals without anyone really taking note.

I was doing the math. Let's say they get 5000 per stg44, (5000 found, I believe) a steal of a deal for a collector, those rifles would equal 100,000 ak47s, even if you paid the outrageous amount of $250 each!

I am going to go out on a limb, and say they will never end up in collectors hands, but theoretically, what a windfall if they knew how to profit from it!
