Hi all,

I've tried searching for this here and on google but can't seem to find a reliable answer. Is the Standard Mauser C96 "Broomhandle" Restricted or Prohibited in Canada?

Thanks in advance.

It depends on when it was made. If it was made before Jan 1, 1898 it is considered and antique. Unfortunately most were made after that date.

Thanks for the reply. What about them makes them Prohibited? The Standard looks like it has a barrel length of 5.5" so that shouldn't cause a problem?

Thanks again.

As far as I know, the broomhandle (with its multiple variants) can fit into more classes than any other make/model of firearm. Antique, full auto, 12.3 converted auto, 12.6, or restricted. Depends on date of manufacture, full or semi auto, and barrel length.

Yes it definitely sounds like they can fit in several different classes, that is good to know thanks.

Can anyone give me an idea of how hard it can be to find a Restricted or Antique version in Canada these days? How much does one in "fair" condition go for usually? This is just for future reference since I am not actively looking for one but would like to some day.

Thanks all.

Antique one you are looking around 10k (not joking). For a restricted they seem to go in the range of 1200-2500$ (give or take depending on variants) personally I would budget around 1600-1800$ for one in the type of condition you are looking for.

Adam....BANG ON!!!!
They can come in all 4x variants. I would be curious if their Carbine version with a longer barrel would even meet non-restricted status!!!!

;)

No. The barrel definitely isn't 18.5" and even if someone somehow dug one up, it was designed as a pistol and therefore will always be restricted
