Steel / Aluminum / Poly Mags ? ? ?

steel mags in your vest give you extra protection from shrapnel and bullets, tradeoff is they weigh more than polymer or aluminum

Lol that's... an odd thing to factor in. You worried about getting shot at the range usually?

Steel mags are more durable, but the feed lips tend to bend if you drop them upside down. You can bend them back though, which is good. Polymer mags are good until they're not, and then there's nothing you can do about it.

I prefer steel mags for the above mentioned reasons, aluminum maybe. The caveat being metal mags must be riveted, none of these crimped ones we're seeing these days. I refuse to own anything I can't disassemble and service.

I also own a lot of Pmags and have no complaints. I've had to tweak the pinning on a few batches, which goes back to wanting serviceability.

In the end, any decent magazine will likely work. They key is to buy lots while we still can.

I have a mix of steel(elander) and polymer with steel lips(lancer)

The wife uses polymer(pmags)

I went with steel initially, since I had the idea that in shtf, you could weld steel easier than fixing polymer. But hey, I am just a voice on the internet.

I prefer steel because I figure it to be more durable especially in our northern climate. That being said I've never personally had issues with Pmags, just assuming the worst. I run quite a few of each.

There really is no difference in durability between the two. Dropping mags will eventually chip/bend/crack them regardless of material. Don't buy crimped metal mags though, you can't disassemble. Reliability is said to be slightly better on pmags, but I've also never seen a feeding issue from stanag mags.

Just saw the Lancer Hybrid mags for the 1st time this week. So far, I like them... But haven't been able to use.

Colt Canada did a pretty thorough test a few years back and the best mags available were the Lancers. They were more dent and drop resistant than all metal and more cold resistant than all polymer.

The big take away was how much better anti tilt followers work in cheap aluminum mags.

CF did not adopt any of the recommendations of the study they commissioned.

Knowing this I run/ran mostly Pmags because they were cheap and I refuse to go anywhere cold anymore.
