Hi, I'm just getting into 3gun and know virtually nothing. Whats the word on the street as far as running steel case ammo? I've heard a few people say its no good and will chew up the internals. Its seems that the most cost effective thing to shoot is the Barnaul steel case .223 but I don't want to destroy my rifle. Any tips and knowledge is most appreciated.

Regards

What is the cheapest cost/round (not including tax & shipping) that you are able to find the steel cased .223 for?

Rifle barrels are consumable items.
By the time you "ruin" the barrel due to use of steel cased ammo, the potential cost savings may have paid for your replacement barrel.

Just shoot the ammo that meets your reliability and accuracy expectations, and don't worry about the "experts" and their opinions.

I did the math on this years ago, using someone else’s estimations on how much quicker steel case will wear your rifle and the cost savings worked out to being able to replace the entire rifle with the cost savings of shooting steel case. That being said, I haven’t found steel that is substantially cheaper than what I’ve found brads case being sold for.

It looks like that Barnaul stuff is going for .37. That's the cheapest I could find anywhere. Based on what pauls and FoxAlpha said I think I'll try a case.

You can get brass cased ammo for a penny more per round (click here). I wouldn't even consider Barnaul for $10/1000 cheaper.

Also consider some clubs/ranges may not permit steel jacketed rifle ammo like Barnaul on their steel rifle targets.
