May 28, 2011 Steel Challenge Results
TDSA hosted a Steel Challenge competition as part of the Smith & Wesson Test Fire Day, held at Silverdale on May 28, 2011.
The winners were:
1. Bill - wins a Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm
2. Connor - 1 year Silverdale Membership
3. Pat S. - TDSA class of his choice
On this day 59 different shooters ran the course 95 total times. The course was the "Smoke & Hope" steel challenge, where participants had the chance to shoot 4 rectangular steel plates and 1 circular plate, placed 42" away from the shooter. Participants were able to choose between a Smith & Wesson 1911 in 9mm or the Smith & Wesson M&P Pro Series 9mm pistol for the course.
The participant would start from the "gun-ready" position, or aiming on target. Once the timer sounded, they would have the chance to shoot the plates as quick as possible, and the timer would stop once the stop plate was hit. If the shooter failed to hit one of the rectangular plates, they would receive a 3 second penalty per plate. If the participant failed to hit the stop plate with the allotted 10 round magazine, they would receive a time of 30 seconds for the round.
On each run, the participant had five tries at the course. To compute their average, the highest / longest time was discarded and the average was based on the remaining four times.
The fastest round was 1.70 seconds by Connor.
