Hello all, I was hoping to get information about where in Canada one might purchase a complete set of targets to run steel challenge matches. I am gathering information to provide to our club president and hope to get steel challenge matches going this fall / winter. Thanks.

Range Rabbit here is a site sponsor. They are new but seems to be getting excellent reviews. In Alberta, I think.

CDTSA just gets theirs custom cut from a steel company.
A lot more affordable that way for a club. (Sort of, like reloading, not necessarily cheaper, but you yield a LOT more targets out of it for the same price)

You've got a member at the VFGPA range that shoots quality steel targets of his own. Fire off a message to NoChanceCW , I'm sure he'd be quite informative on the subject.

I ordered my clubs from GT targets about 5 years ago when we started running it. I'd say about have need to be replaced by now... but after 5 years of weekly use they have lasted as long as can be expected.

edit: also I can tell you from experience, because of the close distances you use for steel challenge, do not use plates with bolts in the front of them to hold them on. I am even skeptical of the MGM style plates but don't have personal experience with them.

Thanks for the information guys. As far as I know there are three options for attaching the plates. Bolting which has it's downsides or you can use a hook that the plate hangs on or the third option which is welding a bracket onto the back of the plate but welds can break under heavy use. Which method does your clubs use? I am in contact with range rabbit and he offers all three methods. Thanks.

Bolting also throws a TON of crap back at you, and since steel challenge has stuff at 7 yards its a bigger issue than rifle steel.

Ours have brackets on the back, and that is what has caused them to need to be replaced since they are cracking around the welds. But that took 5 years of weekly use so I'm ok with it. Welding to AR500 is not regular welding (needs pre heat, proper wire and a blanket wrap after welding), hopefully range rabbit knows how to do it properly without causing the material to get brittle, but it is something to keep in mind.
