Just wondering if there are any clubs doing the steel challenge,or similar type matches here in Canada?I cant seem to find any info outside of the U.S. regarding this.
John.

MrClean runs a match in Barrie Ontario............

Seems like a bit of a drive for you.

Logistics must be my nemisis, always a problem! The reason i asked this question is i thought i saw a post when i first joined cgn regarding a national steel challenge championship shoot. In Alberta maybe?Would that be the wild rose folks mentioned?

Wild Rose held their first Steel Challenge match in 2009. I don't remember if it was a National or not. I'm not even sure of the difference. The sched for 2010 should be out soon.

I would think for a match to be a true Nationals, there would have to be teams available in most provinces and territories and that the match would hold open sports for each Province and Territory.

Good to hear that Zeb,i sent a email to the Wild Rose people regarding info yesterday. So at least i know it was sent to the right place.

My own local club has a form of steel shoot. Nice and simple speed steel shooting. The score keeper just listens for the different "DING!" sounds to know the targets have all been hit correctly and in the proper order. Nothing to reset between strings. Also in this case the shooters start from a low ready position and do not run around like in IPSC. This avoids a lot of the need for extra equipment and holster training issues. In some cases we shoot stages from a prone or crouching cover position for variety. In those cases the gun and mags are placed before the shooter gets into position to avoid any accidental sweepage. The emphasis on this event is fun and advancing our training.

The PoCo club had a Steel Challenge shoot last year done to IPSC regs other than for the target choice. They used some fixed steel targets as well as some fallers from their IPSC collection. Again it was superb fun to see stuff fall down or jump and go "DING!" when hit.

It's been my experience that club members WILL come out and enjoy this stuff immensely. But someone has to take the bull by the horns and get the game rolling. Once targets have been acquired and the process is more or less easy then others will be willing to step up and organize a match day.

And the Wild Rose matches are not Steel Challenge like... they are officially sanctioned by Steel Challenge. Wild Rose is formally affiliated.

Thats good to hear!Look forward to hearing back from them.I have been talking with members here in Whitehorse about steel challenge and am gaining interest.I am building my own targets based on the Nevco system for practice and to show other club members how the steel challenge works. One stage at a time for now.

I used to run the local SC match in Circleville, Ohio.

Just about anyplace that has a berm and 5 pieces of steel can run a Steel Challenge.

You might not have the 10 inch round plates or the 18x24in rectangles, but you don't have to be limited to the 8 stages they run in Cali at the World match.

Get a handful of shooters together...one shooting bay will do. Grab 5 pieces of steel (pepper poppers turned around or set not to fall work fine). Set up a course of fire. Have your group shoot it. Then, go move the 5 pieces of steel and form it up into another cof. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.

It's a great game. Revolver friendly. .22 rimfire friendly. No real need for movement or reloads. Feed back from the targets.

It's good from the beginner level to the pros.
