A customer ordered these to fit in the shroud which is required in their province. I thought I would pass this on if anyone else is interested in the design to make their own. The take down of the assembly was necessary for shipping but also would be helpful for those that must transport or store their targets.

As is the case with all steel targets this is just a suggestion and I cannot accept any responsibility use or misuse of the design. Do not use rebar the ridges may cause additional splash back to shooter or bystanders. I suggest using AR400 steel for the plate if anything more than cowboy action loads are used. The hardness of ar 400 will withstand major power factor loads.

The picture is shown with the A zones the customer ordered for practices but plates or cowboy type targets have been used also.

Base with three bolts that require tightening for set up. An option is it to weld on a piece of 3/8" rod between the two leg angles for additional strength.

A hole was drilled through the 1" tube and a nut welded on for a bolt to limit any side to side movement after the picture was taken. Note the angle the target is sitting at which somewhat limits splashback to shooter.

You don't need the two leg retaining bolts. The overhanging mass of the plate and the leverage will keep the legs in place. Save yourself time and money and get closer fitting tubing.
1" Square tube with 3/32" walls and use 3/4" round bar will give a 1/16 of overall clearance over the 6-8" length of the tubes.

You may want to lengthen the "ears" of the plate to allow for additional holes to have a greater angle for deflection.

retaining bolts

Unless you are using very light loads I would suggest maintaining the bolts due to some movement. Once again this is just a suggestion on a design. Go crazy with your own design. My preference is to build it solid and avoid complaints.

I am the customer and trust me you need the bolts. I have hit it with 9mm, 40S&W and 38 super IPSC loads and all of them turn the plate unless the bolt is tight.

As for the targets themselves they are great and have not yet started to deform although the 38super sure get the plates moving. Great build quality and the take down allow me to store them in my trunk.

I hate patching so this works great for me.

those targets will not get approved by the ontario cfo if theyc are fixed and not falling plates.
They have stated to much splash back if targets are fixed.

Do not be too surea about that BBB.

They pivot to absorb impact and are angled such that the splash goes downwards..

What would be requried and is suggested that it is designed for is shrouds.
