I searched full metal jacket said no match.... did second search came up 2 matches this time I did not search steel vs brass.I found the above while I was researching full metal jackets , thinking of using it in my 223 or not

very good article, answers most of the repeat questions on gunnutz, as to Why my rifle is keyholing. its all explained well.

keep in mind that steel CASE is different from steel BULLET. The case cannot damage the barrel I don't think, only the extractor.

did you read the article? a case that doesn't expand like brass does not fully seal the chamber causing gases to slip by eventually eroding the chamber faster than with brass, steel case CAN damage the chamber which is the barrel.

I picked up some 7.62 x 51 Nato M80 FMJ 145 gr BI Metal Copper/Steel case . Has anyone used this, I am hopeing it is softer then steel case for expanding in the chamber

I have a site and write on guns & hunting, and with that perspective have to say I was blown away by that test. Those guys ran an absolutely incredible test and the time and money invested (most of all the time) is the most impressive feature, what a great article thanks for bringing it to my attention.

Are you talking about the thread I started on Elongated holes, and the keyholing experienced with my Classic Green? Out of over 5000 rounds through the rifle, I have not shot a round of steel cased ammo through the classic green. The rifle that had problems was a black special, that one I fired about 2500+ rounds of steel cased MFS through, and as we all know the rifle experienced serious issues. I feel you have a very valid theory on why and how the steel cased ammo may have caused these issues in the black special (even though they tried it with a new barrel and it still wouldn't work properly), but the keyholeing experienced with the classic green and the stag arms on the carbine course has NOTHING to do with steel cased ammo. If that's what you were referring too anyway when you mentioned the keyholeing thing, if not then disregard!

Hey come on now brass is harder than steel, especially when you ram it into a hole and then fire explosives into it then rip it out of the hole
