Hi All,

In case anyone is curious about the Steiner M5Xi, I snapped a couple of pics of the unboxing. Lol, don't ask me for a range report because this scope is wayyyyyyyyy beyond me. All I know is the glass is crystal clear, I'm betting it will track fine. Generational lifetime guarantee from Steiner gives me total peace of mind. This means that if Steiner is still around, my great grand kids will be covered.

One thing that was surprising for me was the packaging for the T5Xi (US-made model) was actually far nicer than the M5Xi. There was custom cut foam that the T5Xi and all the extra bits fit perfectly into, the box was substantially larger even though the scopes are virtually the same size. Plus the T5Xi came with Tenabraex lens caps, sunshade and throw lever which the M5Xi does not include (includes lens caps, just not Tenebraex).

Not a deal breaker by any means. When I opened the box up for the M5Xi, it felt like it meant business. The box for the T5Xi felt like it was marketed for the consumer, the M5Xi box said “I work for the military and I’m awesome enough not to need fancy packaging”

Anyway, on to the unboxing and essentially photo dump:

Wondering about the calipers? Just trying to figure out which MGM Switchview throw lever to use.

And pardon the crappy photo quality, done with my cell phone.

The next set of pictures should be slightly better quality:

Not a perfect color match, but not horrible either.

15 Mils per revolution eh? Nice. If you don't mind me asking, how much did it run you? Lately all the rage seems to be about the Bushnells and Vortex but not too many people mention the Steiner or Burris XTRII.

Such a ###y scope. After having used some Steiner bino's, I can only imagine what the optics in that scope must be like :xes

Could be because the Burris and Steiners are harder to get up here? At least, I don't see many in stock anywhere.

To tell the truth, clarity-wise, I can’t tell the difference between the Steiner and the Schmidt, but then again, this is the opinion of a guy who just four years ago swore by $60 Deal Extreme scopes (which promptly self-destructed after 5 or 6 rounds of copper-washed 7.62 through a Norc M14).

I am clearly in over my head with this kit, but overtime I hope to grow into it.

As for where to get Steiners, I got them from

https://www.reliablegun.com/en/

I don't think they have any in stock, but they are an authorized dealer and they can bring in anything Steiner, Burris, Stoeger, Sako etc. I met the Stoeger reps there a few weeks ago, really cool guys and they have plans to outfit Reliable Gun with a lot of nice stuff (they brought in a Sako TRG M10 and it sold within days).

Grouse River has them in stock:

http://www.grouseriver.com/Steiner-Military-M5Xi-5-25x56-Riflescope

but I've always found some of their prices a bit higher than average.

Great looking rig but why or why are the rotations "backwards".

Grrr.....

Jerry

Lol, I know what you're saying, but it only took a few shots and adjustments to get used to.

A buddy and I drove out to Merritt this past weekend and I was really impressed with the scope (but then again, it doesn't take much to impress me, lol!). For this trip, we'd only planned to zero my rifle and maybe do a little plinking, so next time we'll set up with some better equipment, longer distances and better ammo.

I honestly can't tell the difference in clarity between the M5Xi and the PMII, but maybe some of the more experienced guys can. Wow, what an amazing piece of glass.

I've dumped some photos in other threads already, but I think this thread needs some outdoor shots:

Do you mean clockwise? s&b are the same way unless custom ordered counter clockwise (but then you have to custom order 2fp scopes too which tells you s&b does it right the first time anyway since 2fp is junk).

After using both, I 100% prefer the clockwise elevation and clockwise for right deflection.

I'm curious why the LRT 3 has that gap above the rail. Wouldn't that be a flex point? I wouldn't want nothing flexing underneath my scope.

Yep, reverse to "conventional" NA rotations. With so many years in competition going 1 way, I wouldn't risk a scope that rotated in reverse.... not a good or bad thing. Just know that I will make a mistake during use.

Yes, that gap is interesting... wonder what it is for?

Mister D... great pics. Glad you got to reach out with those very nice toys. Now time to feed it some better ammo... Save the brass and let's get some proper handloads rocking.

WRT to glass, many companies that take the effort have found a sweet spot in what our eyes need to see way out there.... why many top tier scopes share similar qualities. What you will find is the coating will lean towards one set of features vs another. Not a good or bad thing... just a "I think this is more important than that kind of thing"... pretty much reached the optical limits of the generic mid age shooter.

Now the mechanicals is open to debate and I know with some shooting, you will find out if that Steiner is up to the task at hand.

Enjoy

Jerry
