I picked up a Steiner Predator 4, 2.5-10x42 yesterday. I've never really looked at Steiner much in the past but it caught my eye online, while I was searching for a new scope for one of my rifles. I wanted lower power mag, no dials, with a "simple" bdc reticle. It also has illumination on the crosshair (bonus). Other then it being a little heavy (22oz) it seems perfect and the price seemed to hold a ton of value for what you get. Retailed for $1150.

So, off to the shop to check it out and it seemed to "tic" all the boxes so it came home with me. A bit of an impulse buy but after having it home and playing with it a little it seemed to impress me even more.

Seems extremely well built with a very smooth magnification power ring. Good glass from my limited time looking through it and the reticle will be perfect to the rifle its going on.
I am looking forward to testing it at lower light settings against a few of my scopes. Eye box seems good but hasn't been mounted yet.

I've own(ed) the Leupold VX6 2-12, vx5 2-12, vx5 3-15 and a few VX3's. I also own a Mark 5HD 3.6-18 and Nightforce NXS Compact 2.5-10x42.

Anyone else using the Predator 4 or other Steiner scopes? What are you running and how do you like them?

I may even looking at some of their more expensive scopes, T6Xi and that would compete (price wise) with Nightforce NX8 and Mark 5.

I have owned both scopes and Binos from Steiner and was always very pleased. Still own an illuminated AR style optic which has been awesome. Just be aware if its SFP that the values in the reticle will change as the magnification changes. Your literature will show you this and the values are usually known for a certain magnification range indicated in the ocular ring bye a different colour on the mag ring normally! Great optics and check out their newer model with the heads up display.

Also just got the 2.5-10. Only one range trip so far but I like it. We will see how it holds up over time. It’s on a .223 and most of my shooting is normally only out to 300m and I prefer SFP. I have found FFP reticles hard to see at lower powers on lower contrast field targets.

I put a P4Xi 1-4x24 on my 416 about a year ago and I've been quite happy with it. It's got a 30 mm tube and illuminated crosshair also. Other Steiner's I've looked at appear to be pretty good although they do seem heavy compared to other brands but that isn't necessarily a bad thing depending on what you use it for.

Have never used their rifle scopes, but have had a set of Predator binoculars for the past twenty years or so.

Been carried everywhere and in every season with no issues whatsoever.

I have a ranger 2-8 and a predator 2.5-10. Both excellent. Super glass, built like tanks, hold zero over several years. I have the 2-8 Ranger on a Ruger m77 and its a perfect match. I have the 2.5-10 on a T3 6.5mm that I shoot longer range with. Its an excellent combo. You won't be disappointed. I'd put them on par with the higher end leupolds in terms of glass, and they seem more rugged.
