Sten gun trash or treasure??

The only markings are pictured WZ-26 any idea??

WZ-26 was the Cdn reference number for the Grip, pistol, Cdn Mk 1. The installation of this grip onto a Cmk2 Sten gun made it into the postwar Cdn paratrooper model CDN Mk2/1.

The drawing for the Canadian conversion of the original loopstock over to the grip are shown in Laidler's book on the stens. I have made up several of the grips to those drawings over the years but this is the first grip I have seen with the ref number stamped into it. Nice find, especially if it is original. There were reportedly only 500 made up.

It is even a Hawaii newspaper. That paper would be worth a fortune!

One oddity that I note on the grip, is the absence of the C/l\ mark. Every Cdn made loopstock that I have, or have seen has the small C/l\ mark at the top, in the case of this photo it would be just over the - mark between the WZ-26. For some reason that area has been peened over. The peening at the top edge of the ring is common, and was done to get the ring to fit into the back of the sten. My experience is that the peening of this area is a mistake. Usually the whole ring just needs to be bent forward until the stock/grip slips into the gun. If the stock rattles excessively, you just bend it back until the rattle stops, but the stock fits in.

I have to wonder why the C/l\ mark was cancelled in such a sloppy manner.
