Sterling Arms R18 Problem/Disappointment

Has anyone tried the MFT LAR 10 round mags? Someone on Facebook said that theirs don't seem to seat properly and just drop out. I've got 12 of these mags and would like to reuse them!

Just to add to this thread, I contacted Sterling after I ejected my adjustable gas valve through my own stupidity.

I talked to Mike for about 30 minutes and it was an enjoyable conversation, during which I told him about my mistake and asked if I could buy a new valve from them.

Not only did they send me a new valve No Charge, but they also replaced the faulty PMag that came with my R18. According to Mike they had a bunch of issues with the mags they were supplied, and now they ship the R18s with steel mags supplied by E-lander.

Hopefully I won’t be talking to Sterling too much(doh!), but it was a great experience and I’m happy to have my rifle back up and running again.

is it stripping the next round? if not then the bolt isn't moving far enough back to eject the empty case - not enough gas or something resisting the rearward travel of the bolt - sticky chamber, grit, or perhaps some scarring from your previous issue.

if it is making it far enough back to start to strip the next round then an issue with your ejector (or perhaps the extractor holding on too tight).

The new extractor pin they sent is extremely tight and I needed a punch and mallet to hammer it into place. It cannot be installed or removed by hand like an ar15 extractor pin. Could that be causing the issue?

I will try to send it in for warranty work. Maybe Sterling can fix the issue.

The coiled roll pin is meant to be tight. A normal AR15 pin will not stay in place and damage the bolt carrier. If you are having difficulty inserting it, please send it to us and we will do it for you.
