I am seriously thinking of doing something very similar, but scaled back a bit, starting with a Savage 116 .

Did the 4831 sc and had about the same as you for grouping
24 varmit Kreiger mcmillian stock
went to reloader 22 with 49 grains and bam
tightened right up hole in hole at 100 1/2 inch groups at 300
1.5 inches to 2 at 600
sst at 3.129 10 th into the lands
