Phase one of my Stevens 200 project is complete! It's wearing a new thumbhole stock from Richards microfit. I spent a day finishing this thing down to 1500 grit, then I followed it up with a dozen or so raw linseed oil treatments, followed by a few more hours with the 1500 grit and finer. The surface is glass-smooth, but only a satin gloss, thanks to the raw linseed (a penetrating instead of a drying oil).

For the moment, it's still wearing a Banner scope, but I've a vari-x III that's going to get mounted. I still need to bed the action and install some pillars, some sling swivels, and a metal trigger guard. Next phase will be a heavy-sporter countor 284 win barrel :D

Fit was reasonably good, the action dropped right in. I had to do some work along the barrel channel and along the side of the action where the bolt release is

Whooa, "SHE" is a beauty Prosper. I have the same project on mind, except in a .223. Now, just imagine that with a jeweld bolt and a matt finish.

Plus, there is something to be said about initiative and creativity. When you are done, the rifle will reflect the hard work and thought you have put into it.

Is Richards a Canadian company?

no, they're in the US somewhere. It's legal to export them because they're not finished. Until the stock is finished to fit the rifle, it's just lumber
