For the guys that have a one piece rail on their stevens (in 223 if that matters). Does the rail at all interfere with loading or unloaded?

Just thinking of picking one up when ever I buy a new scope for it.

I have a 200 with Talley LW rings. My Burris Signature 3-9x mounts nicely but others are too short in the scope tube which is why some guys use a 1 piece rail on theirs. I would be more inclined to use a set of extension rings or bases rather than a 1 piece rail for ease of loading. Unloading won't be a problem as you'll have to cycle the rounds through the action (and contrary to popular belief this is not unsafe nor will your #### drop off from doing so).

You may not have the problem with the short action and, IMO, if you don't have a scope mounting issue then I wouldn't go with the rail.

Thanks guys for the comments

Not sure what direction to go.

WHat would you guys rather have. A basix trigger or a half desent scope on the stevens?

The 200s stock trigger is a little heavy but ya cant shoot what you cant see...
Are you able to play/cut/modify the Spring of the Trigger?

ive got a rail on my 200 in 223 (centerfeed) and its fine. i think its a weaver im not sure though as i got it from wholesale and it didnt have a box and they only charged me 2.99 ha. theres a round cutout on the rail to make it easier on your thumb, id say spend a little more on your scope as the stock trigger is useable though heavy as stated

For my 200 in 223 I went with the extended base aswell as the extended ring on the front .the scope I am useing is short so in order to get the proper eye relief I need both .no problems loading or unloading.

Thanks again guys for the feedback, it does help me out

I should say that I do have a crappy simmons 3-9x40 on it right now, so it could get me through the winter if you know what I mean. Iam looking at the bushnell legend hd for it on the EE right now though. Always wanted to check one of them out for some reason. :) Thats why Im thinking scope or trigger right now.

I dont know if I want to start playing around with this trigger (spring) shrug shrug. I am going to eventually get a basix sav-1 trigger for it down the road.

cheers

If you think you can get by with the scope you have now the basix trigger is a very worth wile purchase.thats the only mod i have done to mine so far.I am still debateing which boyds stock to put on it .I have a couple of the thumbholes on other rifle so i am kind of thinking on the parrie hunter for the 223.

Everything I read about those triggers is good, so its just a matter of funds.

I just picked up a Boyds RVT for my 17hmr that Im doing up over the winter too. Anyways from just playing around with it in my basement it seems like it will be a very good addition for blasting gophers this year. Im looking at picking up something similar for the Stevens as well down the road.

So far Im leaning towards a one piece rail for the Stevens.

thanks guys

I tweaked the stock trigger on mine (30-06) and, while not excellent, it is much crisper than it came from the factory. I used the 3-9x Signature that I had on hand after my 300 WM went to the smith for a rebuild. It's a better scope than you would expect on a $300 rifle but I'd rather have better glass than necessary. In the future I wil likely swap out the trigger for a better unit but for now it is sufficient to deliver groups well sub-MOA, and even sub 1/2 MOA when the stars align properly.

Just adjusting, no filing. Had I gotten really brave and taken the trigger off to hone it the pull might have cleaned up (there's a bit of creep in it). Then again, I might have bollocksed it up properly and had to replace the whole thing.

Rgr

Thought I would check it out by taking the stock off and having a look see. Well I backed the screw off alittle bit. Easy peasy I tell yeah. Wont know what it set to until I can take it over to my buddys house to check.

If it does lighten it up some I think I might buy a new scope for it instead. thx

EDIT: Forgot when I had it apart that I was going to look for a shim to take the slop out of the trigger. Oh well. Next time
