Stevens 200 or Weatherby Vanguard?

Ive got both and prefer the Vanguard for the fact it has the hinged plate vs the blind mag. I really dislike a blind mag. Both are good shooting rifles in my experience.

Cheers!!

The Howa is the better of the two rifles,it's a copy of the Sako. And a well made one at that. I have a couple of the new Savages with the Accutrigger, that's worth the price of admission. With a Steven you may end up-grading the trigger. The other question is 7mm vs 30 caliber. Fatter works better on moose and elk. Magnums tend to shoot better full,so down loading may not work as planned.

Get the Vanguard! I have a Vanguard in 300 WSM, and it is a very accurate rifle. Only thing I don't care for is the trigger, and that is easily remedied. Mine is the Blued/Laminate, and I am actually quite pleased with this rifle, overall. That coming from a Remington nut is something! Actually, I have several makes in my gunsafes, but Remington definitely dominates, percentage-wise. Regards, Eagleye

I like the Stevens 200 in SA cals like 7mm-08. For the choices given, I'd get the Vanguard in .300 WSM, buy some reloading supplies, head to the range and never look back. Well, ok maybe some trigger work/repl. on the way, if required.

I've PM'd my source to the 3 people who PM'd they wanted to buy the stevens'. There were only 3 available and I've decided that I don't want one (in those magnums - anything other than a magnum would have been a no-brainer). I need to handle a vanguard/howa and an XL7 side-by-side before I settle on my "final answer."

I have a Stevens 200 and for that price there isn't much out there value wise that is going to top it. The Vanguard I have only handled and have not owned one but side by side the stock is better but the rest of the gun doesn't warrant the extra 200 unless the name means that much.

Get the Stevens (all 3) sell them in EE & use the money to get the Wea. :) Wholesale Sports are bringing in Marlin XL7 (here already in Edmonton) Look there then buy from Prophet above :) good luck AJ

I love my Vanguard 300WSM one of the best rifles I own... at any price made by Howa in Japan comes complete with 1 1/2" group factory fired target. You will appreciate the weight when you squeeze the trigger
