Stevens 200 Owners!! Anyone recently upgrade a stock?

Numrich has a whole bunch of factory Savage stocks for sale in all kinds of configurations. You just have to be careful about which action you have, the long or short action.

They go anywhere from $65 to $75 or so.

Brownells has Choate rifle stocks for Savages. Sharp Shooter Supply offers an number of laminate stocks. I suspect the Choate is your best bet.

Anyone try the boyds stock and make it work with the centerfeed? I am thinking of just going this route and not even swapping the magazine. I reload and my loads are too long to feed from the mag anyways. Just fill it with some bondo or something should work. If I then ever wanted to use it for coyote hunting I could just put the action back in the original stock.

This is my Stevens 200 .223 with a Boyd's thumbhole laminate stock.I believe the colour is called forest camo. It's a great stock to upgrade a Stevens 200 with, however, mine is the older staggered feed model.

I have also upgraded with an oversized bolt handle and a Rifle Basix Trigger set at 1 1/2 pounds.

I ordered a boyds for my 200 .its a long action and according to the gentleman i was talking to at boyds all that is required to be done to the stock for the long action is to inlet the stock for the L shaped bracket at the rear of the magazine and add a block in front of the mag to hold it in place.the short action requires the same mods plus you need to remove a bit of wood from the front side of the front action screw hole.if you have questions phone boyds I think they would be more than happy to verifie this for you.my stock hasn't arrived yet but I will let you know how it goes when I receive it.

I have a Boyds Thumbhole on my 22-250 and one going on the 25-06. The fix for the mounting hole is quite simple. Get some 1/4" dowel, cut to fit and glue in the forward mounting hole. You can now measure and drill the new hole to match the Stevens action. It may not look the prettiest but it works a treat. For the short action I shimmed the magazine with .063" aluminum and it worked perfectly, no feeding problems at all. All in all modifications were done in one night and the guns accuracy was improved ten fold. As soon as I figure out how post pics I will put some up here.

If you order the boyds stock from stockys stocks they have a model for the new center feed short action with the 4.4 inch screw spacing. I just ordered mine. Its more money. 200$ but it is ready to go for your gun.(hopefully) i realise that is is way more than the boyds from boyds. But it should fit. I also ordered a mcgowen stainless barrel in 1-9 twist varmint contour 24" gonna be sweet. I am lucky because i have a friend currently living in south dakota so i ordered everything to him and he'll drive it up for me. I also got stockys to add longer screws and pillars. The mcgowen is a heck of a deal. i was originally talking to jerry from mystic and i planned on buying it from him but i am guilty of not having enough patience to wait for the longer lead time. He is very helpfull and i will be ordering from him in the future and i suggest you all talk to him for your needs.

Going for gophers tomorrow if the weather cooperates. try to get some at 200+ :)

Well I have talked to Stocky's and they do not ship to Canada! And I do have family in the US but Exporting firearms parts is just as illegal for your buddy as anyone else without the appropriate paperwork. And I have been discussing plans with Jerry and plan on going with the Shilen barrel and a Choate tactical stock. Problem is getting one over the border!!!!!!!!

Why would it be illegal to bring a barrel and a stock back. Its not illegal to bring ammo or powder or even loaded ammo. If they sell it to you the canadian boarder has no problem with it. My friend brought 3lbs of powder 500 rounds of 9mm and 500 rounds of 224 and they had no problem with it. I don't forsee any issues. but i would appreciate any info you may have.

You have LOTS of reading to do...before making a statement like that.

HINT: The problem isn't with our import rules..it's with THEIR export/possession rules.
