I thought some of you might be interested in the performance of the Stevens 200 in .223 with a few of the available factory loads.

-Hornady 40 gr Vmax:

(clover leafs time and time again, most consistent)

-Remington UMC Jacketed hollow point, 50gr:

(have had many clover leafs, but this one 3 shot group today had a flyer which was my fault). By far, at 9$ a box is the best value for accurate varmint bullet.

-Winchester whitebox, 62gr FMJ:

not shabby, but is at best 1.5 MOA consistent, which is a shame

-Remington express, 55 grp pointed soft point

not very great.

Ryanb,

My Stevens 200 in 223 shoots Nosler 40 gr Ballistic Tip handloads about the same as those 40 VMax factory loads, right on half an inch.

That's fabulous for factory ammo! Where did you buy it?

Ted

The rifle I got from SIR. The ammo from the local hunting store.

The 50 grain UMC jacketed hollow point stuff shoots about as well as the vmax, which at 9 bucks a box is a smoking deal! The 40 grain vmax is 20 bucks a box.

No UMC ammo up here. Where do you get it in BC?

nice shooting with them 40's and 50's

try some Winchester Supreme in it with either the 40, 50, or 55 gr. Ballistic Silvertip, alot of guys find their accuracy to be good with these loads.

You guys are sure getting me going on these rifles. Every time I see a post like this I have to tell my self not to buy one. I don't need one, but I'm sure I'll break and eventually buy one.

Most stores carry it. I think it may be called remington express now, but it still says "manufactured by UMC" on the box.

My brother just picked up the .300 WM from Wholesale Sports in Edmonton. The catologue price is $319 and they will honour it. You can't beat that price...I'm saving up my pocket change to put towards a 7mm RM.
