Hello CGN, I just picked the 2015 Gun Digest at the local used book store and it states that the Stevens 200 is/was available in a number of calibers from 223 to 300 Win Mag but I can't seem to find a gun shop that sells them. Can anyone tell this Newbie where I can get a Stevens 200?

Thanks

Think they have been replaced by the Axis as Savages entry level rifle. Love the Stevens nice and light. Excellent entry or biuld up platform

you snoozed you loose, all the popular calibers sold out fast.
Once they sold out, they brought out the axis line.

These days the only ones you "might" find are some of the magnums.

Stevens 200 Replaced by Savage Axis?

I read an article by Jerry Teo of Mystic Precision on "How to Build a Long Range or F Class Rifle on a Budget" and Jerry is a big fan of the Savage action. The Stevens 200 which I never heard of before (yes, I know nothing) is built on the Savage action and inexpensive. I am not sure about the Axis being the same action as I don't think its available in the larger calibers or long action. You nailed it on the head stating that the Stevens 200 is a great starter rifle and it can easily be built up. According to Jerry this rifle with no modifications to the action except replace the AccuTrigger if you need a really light trigger, replace the Stevens/Savage barrel with a match barrel from Shilen or PacNor, upgrade the stock and get a decent scope and you will have yourself a great long range tack driver for relatively cheap. Jerry's Stevens 200's are shooting 2's at 300 yards! Wow I say, all for under a $1,000. I would love to get Stevens 200 in 7RM or 300 WM.

The Axis is a different action.

I had one years back in .223. I Sold it and regret it like most of the guns I've sold.
It was very accurate. I'm talking 5 shots under a loonie at 80 meters with a cheap bushnell 3x9 CanTire scope I had on her.
Was using off the shelf ammunition as well. I still have the target paper! lol I liked it because it was a simple design, very light compact rifle.
I now own an axis in .223. It's good and just as accurate to be honest and it has the detachable mag but it still just doesn't have that Stevens charm to it. Also the action on the Axis is much longer than the Stevens was. For some reason the bolt travel on the axis seems really long for a short action cartridge like the .223 The Axis is just as good so far having owned both now. It' very affordable and very accurate, light and wel balanced just like it's older brother Steve :D

I picked one up at Dantes a couple months ago
Spooky accurate ,
Not a fan of the no mag system though
trying to get used to it , real pain to load
cheers

I have a 200 in 30.06 and like it. Just got back from Moose Hunt with it. Easy carrying gun! It's identicle to the base model Savage 111. Shoots better than I can. Worth the price of admission for sure!

If I am remembering correctly, savage took all the remaining 10 and 110 barreled actions (after they brought out the accutrigger line) and dropped them in the grey injection mold end stock. These were then marketed as the Stevens 200 and sold at entry level pricing. Once stocks dried up, they were gone.

They were good rifles, except the trigger.... I had a .223 that would perform as well or better than buddy's far more expensive rifles. I installed a target trigger, which really made it shine. When they went out of production, I wound up selling it for more than the original purchase price too....though every once in a while I wish I hadn't....

I have a Stevens 200 in 300WM ; I paid 300 for it on sale when they were winding down inventory . Kind of homely with the grey stock....but super tough , and extremely accurate for a budget rifle.....you can't go wrong with the 200.....

It seems long because it is. It is like a tika, long action for everything from 223 to 30-06. Just a different mag is used.

Just buy a current Savage 11 short action or 111 long action package rifle for $550 and you get the accutrigger, decent scope/mount, and detachable box mag.

It is the same action and barrel as the stevens 200 and the aforementioned upgrades are worth it. Like others said the 200 was a selloff of non accutrigger actions; fine if they are gone, they still make the same barreled action in a better gun.

I just got an 11 package non accutrigger for $389. I don't like the accutrigger anyway so either way it would have been swapped out. Bought it for the action anyway.
