I've found a good deal ($299.99) on the Stevens 200 rifle. I assume they are the newer ones with the center feed mags. Any reason not to buy because of this? Thanks

My .223 is sub-MOA out of the box with V-Max and Varget. Mind you, I had to clamp it down to get that, since I'm only good for about 2 MOA myself ;)

... and I bagged my first coyote last week, standing, unsupported, from about 50 yards - so I'm pretty happy... I'm loving this rifle. Free-floating barrel, but I agree with the above poster that a new stock would be a plan in future - they put no effort into that stock at all.

The two I had, (22-250 and a .243) were both extremely and consistantly accurate. The only reason I sold them was the top feed made unloading them a PITA.

+1 on the top feed - a mag would be so much easier than trying to sneak rounds under my scope, but I'm slowly getting better at it. It'll never appear in a speed-loading match :)

Lebaron's has them listed in the specials for $345.00.and the boyds thumbhole will fit the long action with a small bit of inletting.mine a 270 will shoot sub 3/4' groups consistantly.

I have one in 22-250. The blind mag is a bit of a pita, so I just single shoot it. Its accurate enough, I have time between shots. The stock is pretty wimpy, but it works. I spray bombed the stock black and put a $50 Ebay 6x24 scope on it. It continues to surprise me how well it shoots.

I have one in 30-06 it shoots better then me. Great gun for an entry level price. I did a lot of research before i bought one and I am glad I bought mine. Mine cost 360 taxes in. My only gripe (because I have a 22 with an accu-trigger) is the trigger. My pops bought the Savage 111 Package in 270 and put in a Timeny trigger with a 2.5 lb pull, I really like his trigger. I will most likely put one in my gun in the next few months.

Once you put a good trigger in, the guns are very accurate. I enjoy my .223. I don't find the stock as bad as everyone else reports. Am I just that insensitive to the "limpness" of the stock?

You don't even need a new trigger to get good results. I just followed the instructions on the net and adjusted the trigger from factory grittiness to quite crisp and around 4 lbs. Sure, a lighter trigger might be nice from the bench, but triggers under 4 lb can be a bit dodgy if you hunt in very cold weather, as I do. Besides, the rifle shoots sub MOA every day of the week and will often put a group into a half inch or better so why worry about spending money on a new trigger? I doubt that I would see any real gain.

Actually, looks really nice in black. Who knew? One step closer to picking one up in 22-250.

X2.
I also gave the forestock some more space between it and the barrel,
and packed the forearm cavity's with plastercine (sp?)
and the rear stock cavity i filled with old tumbling media
i had. This seemed to balance out the stock and give it a little more weight.
I tried sand as well and glass beading material, but found that too heavy.
Combine that with the smoothed out and lightend trigger,
and beded the action with steal putty.
I get awsome consistant 100 yard groups
with it now.
Mine is .223

I haven't bedded my action yet but I've stiffened up the fore end with two lengths of aluminium arrow shaft and a bunch of 5 minute epoxy. Stiff as I'd ever want it to be now.

Take them for what they are. I've left mine alone and it shoots as good or better than guns costing triple what a Stevens is. If you spend money on better stocks, triggers etc.. you might as well buy a higher end rifle.

If you like to tinker and buy aftermarket stuff then go for it. Personally I love mine as is out of the box and plan on spending the money I've saved on powder and bullets. These guns IMHO are very good value for the $$$.

BTW mine is a .223 that shoots 25grs of 4895 behind a 55 gr v-max into a toonie all day long

Buy one and " Drive it like you own it " :D
