Stevens rifles have a reputation for good accuracy and budget pricing. I haven't heard of this 22, but the Stevens 200 centerfire rifle has a good repuation with a lot of CGN members.

It is pritty much a savage 64 without the options and accu-trigger. I love savage guns, for the price they cant be beat for accuracy. Actually most of the time they shoot better than guns costing multiple times their amount! Made in lakefield (Peterborough) Ontario!

The Savage 64 is a semi-automatic, and is not available with the accutrigger. The 300 is the same as the MkII, but without the accutrigger. The gun itself should be fine but I'd get it without the scope and put a better one on it, or just use it with the open sights. The Savage version with the accutrigger is another option in about the same price range without the scope.

I don't understand the Stevens 300. The Stevens 200 - sure, it's a couple hundred bucks cheaper than the 'savage' line guns, with fewer features. The 300, on the other hand, is nearly the same price as the equivalent Savage guns

I have a non-AccuTrigger Savage Mark II, which, as noted above, is the same thing as the Stevens 300. It's a good rifle for the price. The only problem with it is that there are almost no aftermarket accessories for it, so if you're going to buy a Savage rimfire rifle, buy the best you can get (like the Savage Mark IIBV) because you won't really be able to upgrade it like you can with a 10/22.

You don't really need to do much upgrading, though. The trigger needs tweaking, and you can do it yourself if you're mechanically inclined. Otherwise, my mk2bv (pre-accutrigger) shoots better than any 10/22 I've shot it against, some costing 10x as much more.

But you bought the heavy barrel, wooden stock version. The Stevens is the regular barrel, synthetic stock version. If you bought the Stevens 300 and later decided you wanted a wood stock or heavy barrel, then you'd be out of luck.
