Has anyone had any experience good or bad with a Stevens 300 22lr? I think theyre the same as the Savage 64F....any idea about accuracy, any possible issues, etc.

the Savage 300 looks like the savage 64 but it is a bolt action box mag fed. My son has one and over the last 6 years he has put thru thousands of shells both at the range and gopher fields...so far trouble free and very accurate for a cheap .22. If I did not have my favorite Model 81 and 990L Marlins, and my Mossbergs, I would like to have one.

Stevens 300

The Stevens 300 is not a bad entry level rifle. However, for a few dollars more, you can buy the Savage Mark II with the Accu-trigger. Believe me, it is worth the extra money.

The trigger on the Stevens 300 is not really adjustable, while the Savage Mark II does have some adjustment range. A good trigger system promotes more accurate shooting. The Stevens 300 is very similar to the Savage Mark II, but it has a different (cheaper) trigger system.

You didn't say what you wanted it for.......targets, plinking, gophers, etc. If you are more interested in accuracy for target shooting and gophers, then you might even consider the heavier barreled models.

I would mainly be using it for plinking and target practice. I just sold my Remington Model Five...great rifle its just a little heavy for the misses and the front dovetailed sight really bugs my vision. Just want something inexpensive to have abit of cheap fun with, although accuracy is important. I have also been looking at an older Springfield semi.
