So I just obtained a stevens 300F trapper model. Basically a 13" barrel shorty bolt carbine. Put on a Simmons 4x rimfire scope on her and sighted her in today. Fun gun, accurate, compact. Pretty rudimentary but at its price point I can't complain, it does its job well.

Now I managed to put out 2" groups at 50yards which is what I was zeroing at, but MAN IS THE TRIGGER EVER HEAVY on this thing. It was making my hand cramp and more than once I thought maybe it had locked because a round wasn't chambered and ejected a live round. It's probably teh worst trigger I've ever experienced, never have I actually found it painful to simply pull the trigger on a new gun, nevermind on a .22lr!

So I'm new to the whole savage/stevens family and I'm seeing various things on how easy it is to do a trigger job, or are there drop in triggers out there such as the accutrigger or any aftermarket bits and pieces/companies? I am absolutely certain I can at least half the group size just from the trigger alone as I was literally fighting it all day, yet was pleasantly surprised that the little carbine was actually fairly accurate even with a trigger that I wanted to use 2 fingers to pull.

Thanks.

These triggers are too expensive for a great priced Stevens. Better to get work done if you can.
I can assure you that it will be way more expensive to "get work done" than to buy the RifleBasix. It is cheaper (free) if you can do it yourself. The shims above do help with the creep but don't do a lot for the weight and letoff.
Check SavageShooters rimfire section, they have all the mods in there.

Maybe there isn't one, check with RB and if they don't then you will have to do it or get it done for you. Are you coming up to the OK in the near future? I could give you some pointers on doing it. I don't know why the 310 trigger (SAV-R)wouldn't work. AFAIK they are the same gun in different calibers but check with RB

Riflebasix lists triggers for the stevens 200, stevens 310, savage mk I and II...nothing for a 300f unless one of those other ones will fit?

SAV-R should fit, the stevens 300 is a non-accutrigger savage mrk2

My .22mag stevens 305f(same short barrel) gets around 1.5" @ 50yrds with hornady(will try other brands tomorrow). The previous owner did something with the trigger cause it feels pretty decent.

Thanks I will call them on monday and inquire.

Yes I'm seeing alot of information saying the 300 is just a mk2 without the accutrigger.

But It's kind of odd how they specifically list the SAV-R as working ONLY for a 310....
Best I inquire I think.
