Im Having trouble with a Stevens 305 misfiring. The firing pin has been polished and the channel has been polished. The striker end of the pin has been filed back a bit to match my savage 93. The only strange thing is comparing it to my savage 93 22 mag. The sear has a rounded groove in it on the 305, and the 93 doesn't But to me it looks machined from factory. Anyone have a 305 that they could take a picture of the sear, so I can see if it's the same as mine. Also if anyone has had the same issue how did they fix it. The tip of the pin is protruding from the bolt the same as the 93. Washers have been installed to compress the spring a bit. It did start misfiring less since the washers were installed. If anyone knows where I could get a firing pin , spring, and sear let me know. Thanks

I'm using CCI AMMO, same stuff that works perfect in my savage 93.
What I meant when I said the striker end of the pin is filed back is . There actually was a shoulder above the part of the pin that hit the primer rim, and it looked to be longer than the pin in my 93. It seemed to be leaving a mark on the barrel face. The other thing is when there is a misfire. If I lift the bolt handle and recock it, it will fire.

I bought a Stevens 305 here in NB and currently I'm having the EXACT same problem. I've tried the same things you have tried... What ended up happening with your firearm??

No problems with mine yet in more than 6 months. The shape of the firing pin is the shape of the firing pin; I see no need to alter it. The shoulder above the striking surface is flush with the bolt body above the face. Marks on the barrel from dry firing, or through live fire?
Here is a picture of the sear, and it does have a machined groove on the back:

For an up-grade, you can put in the Rifle Basix Sav-R Sear for non- Accu Trigger models (Brownells has it), which is light, adjustable, crisp. It's also a hundred U.S.A. bucks plus.
