Anyone got any first hand experience with the Stevens 555 over/under?

I'm looking for a casual hunting/trap gun that won't break the bank or cause trouble with she who balances the budget.

I'm the kind of guy that breaks 18/25 on a trap range with my M12 20 and 12 ga pumps as I'm not a practiced shot - yet. I know it's Turkish made, has an alloy receiver. The net reviews are pretty positive, the only criticism being that it's a lightweight.

I don't want or need auto-ejectors as I'm a Cowboy shooter and our double guns don't have them. Who stocks them and what is one going to cost me?

Ellwood Epps has some in stock , I got one in 28g compact and quite happy for the money, it's not a B gun but I think it's great value for the $ IMHO. I think Cabelas might be stocking the 12/20 enhanced model now.

I just got one new in box that I made a trade for. I was well aware that it is an entry level gun primarily designed for hunting. I looked at a Stevens 512 some years back and was not impressed. But the reviews I read on the 555 were mainly positive so I made a trade just to see what the 555 was like. I only had it out for one weekend so far and only put a box of heavy trap loads through it. The gun only weighs 6 pounds so I was prepared for a fair amount of recoil. I was pleasantly surprised as I found the recoil not to be bad at all. I'm sure it would be a different story if one was to use heavy 3" loads but I don't intend to. Because of its light weight, I figured it would be a nice gun to carry for upland. There were no issues shooting the 25 rounds but then I certainly would hope there would not be. From the reviews I read, I think the only one who had problems out of the box was Randy Wakeman!! Anyhow, the gun fits me well and it has a very nice balancing point. The stock is oil finished with the wood being what you would expect on a budget level gun, okay but nothing to write home about. I find the fit and finish to be quite well done for a gun in its price range. The opening lever is a bit stiff but nothing at all terrible and it will loosen up. As mentioned, the single trigger worked fine and there was no double firing through the first box of shells. But one box of shells is not much of a test but it's all I had time for. The receiver on mine is the plain black finish without any gaudy adornment which I prefer on a gun of this price point. Overall, so far, I am pleased with the gun for what it is. When buying these guns, one has to realize what they are intended for. This is an entry level hunting gun. Do not buy it with the intent of shooting it for high volume clays.
There is another thread running right now where the OP mentions the Canadian Tire (where he is??) has the 555 on sale for $670.00
