My first shotgun. Picked up this nice little pump shotty at a gun show recently from a guy who had shot it just previous without any problems. I dissasembled and gave it a well needed clean-up and got it back together with little difficulty. Took it out to the range, pulled the trigger but no fire. Checked the shell and observed a primer hit but too shallow. I guess the problem must be in my assembly because it apparently worked fine before. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

Have a good look at the tip of the firing pin, is it rounded and obviously not broken? Take the firing pin out, if that is not the case and check for a broken or mangled firing pin spring. Sometimes when a shotgun gets it first good cleaning after a long period, crap can be dislodged and remain in the firing pin housing, around and intertwined in the spring resulting in less than desired results.

Just a thought

So I dissambed it and the pin is fine and no obstructions/fouling etc. All springs and trigger seem fine and action seems smooth and the hammer does appear to be sufficiently striking the pin far enough forward in the chamber. The only thing I can notice is that there is a slight movement of the bolt (backward) when the action is dry fired. Could this be the problem where the bolt is not fully engaged on the primer? However, I'd be suprised if my cleaning could alter the correct seating. If so, any ideas on what to do?
