Has anyone ever handled this rifle? A buddy of mine picked it up a few weeks ago, and loves it. Going out later this week to try it out. To me, it looks like a butt ugly gun. If anyone has ever shot this, what do you think of it?

I've never shot one, nor would I want to. I think it's a cheap piece of overpriced garbage. The gun feels like it's made out of tin foil. The wood came from a 2x4 wall stud and the whole thing fits together like it's waiting for bubblegum to smooth the seams. The lever could be bent with just your fingers and I cannot get the sights to line up, as the stock just feels weird. Do you want me to be more honest next time without all the sugarcoating? :D

well, googling 'Steven's Favourite' doesn't pull up much and no pictures. so can you share something directly?

Try "Stevens Favorite"

Nice, little, "Boys Rifle" from the turn of the century era, when it was still conidered reasonable to give a kid a gun and ammo, and let him wander freely with them.

The new ones, I have heard, are a little light on the final finish, in that the wood to metal fit could be a lot better.

Cheers

It is a very nice little gun but a little pricy compare to the other Savage single shot. I was once want to buy one for my daughter but she feel the balance of the gun feel funny and doesn't have a cool factor. End up got a Mark I and she couldn't be happier. I do love the look of the gun. Very often you can get a good used one for less than hundred at gunshow.

Something about it does seem clunky. Though, I've never held it yet. Which is too bad. I swear by Savage, but unless firing this at the range greatly increases my views of this firearm, this is one rifle I definitely wouldn't recommend. Every other Savage product that I've handled I've loved(and I've handled alot). Firing range trip is tomorrow. Who knows. I might be pleasantly surprised.

I own one and I tend to agree with you. There's much better 22's out there, and some of them are even less money.

there was another ''Stevens favourite''-manufactured in Oregon I believe, high quality and finely finished, but not in production any more.

I own two original Stevens Favorites, and they are accurate, light , well made firearms.
Don't know about the new ones, never shot one.
My kid brother uses one on his trapline and it has never let him down.
It stores in takedown fashion in his quad.

Well, I shot it today. Buddy has both. The newer favourite and the old one. The old one is alright. Very accurate, but seemed a bit clunky. The new one... I don't know why he loves it. Not very accurate, very clunky, and seems poorly made. After a few shots, I was worried about breaking the rifle simply because it seemed so weak. I asked Steve why he loves it. Said it was fun. Perhaps it is for some people. Not for me. Even the old model didn't seem that fun. Definitely better, but not that fun.

I have one of the Varner Stevens favourites. They are a first class gun ,their workmanship far out does the originals and the savage versions.Mine was made in the 80s and is very accurate.

yes, that was the one I was trying to locate-the Varner Favourite-in production for only a couple of years I believe. They were reputed to be fine workmanship , superior to the original ''favourite''and a lot better than the savage version.Obviously anybody who owns one is hanging onto it-they don't show up often, although a google search shows GunsAmerica lists one for $895
