I looking at getting a Stevens Model 200 in .270. I had a .270 years ago and was happy with it, taking whitetails and a nice black bear. I'd like to get some feedback on the Stevens as far as accuracy and any problems anyone may have encountered.

Hey dnkosh, the Stevens 200 is one of the most talked about rifles, on this site and others as well. Just use the search engine here and you will find a lot of farourable reviews. Of course, people with more expensive taste will tell you otherwise, but what the heck?

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at how accurate the Stevens is even if the stock is fugly as hell. That's an easy fix with a bit of paint and imagination though. My 308 shoots 1/2 inch groups with handloads.

Well, don't expect a benchrest rifle but you should be pleased with 3 shot groups from the Stevens 200 right outta the box. ;)

My Stevens in 270 is an honest half MOA rifle. I shot two groups with 130 grain accubonds last time at the range, first was in the very low .4's and the second was .6" at 100 yards. This is with no tweaking of OAL or fine tuning the powder weight beyond the nearest half grain.

I'd love to see what it can do with some tweaking but I won't bother for now, plenty good for deer and the odd long range or heavy wind coyote shot.

Sounds benchrest capable to me.;)

i have one in .300WM and the stock takes some paint or modding to be eye candy, but functionaly it is an excellent rifle out of the box. it will do 1moa or better without any mods needed. i would have to say that you will be happy with your choice of a stevens given its acuracy and use for what you pay for it. it also makes an excellent platform to build a more competition based gun from

this is 2 3 shot groups from my 300WM at 100 yrds with the factory barrel and ammo

thanks for feedback

Thanks for all the great feedback. I know I loved my old .270 and now am looking forward to getting the Stevens. I do have a paint scheme in mind that should take some of the ugly off.
