I'd say keep the high rings, but go with a scope that has a really small objective lens. Like one of the cheap 4x20 Tasco's from CT. That will really amplify the effect you are looking for.

looks fine for me.

the scope should sit centered to where you eye is so i can only guess that it is in the right place for the person or why would you have them.

I have my Stevens in high offset rings

Too many twits mount as low as possible to cause you to tilt your head forward or squeeze into the stock if the rifle and then they feel the need for a longer eye relief because of a poor shooting position.

If the stock was designed for iron sights then the low mount are probably good but if the stock is properly designed for a scope the med/high would probably be a better choice unless you are a smaller then average person.

You can cover a lot of options with those two calibres. I don't have Stevens, but I have Savage's, so you'd might as well call it the same. How are they shooting?

The .223 shoots 1.5" using cheap winchester 55gr. I suppose it would shoot better but I am a medeocre shot and use only a front rest most of the time. Haven't shot the .06 yet but I am going to the range Sunday. Trying out some 180gr Winchester soft points. Yes they are painted using Krylon Black. My only gripe with them was the colour of the stock, it was butt ugly.

Im on my second one, I had one in .223 that shot really well but I ended up selling because I had no use for that cal. I just picked up a .308 and Im working up some loads for my wife to shoot, I should have some idea on how it shoots next week.

Stevens 200's are the best 'cheap' guns on the market today. Can't go wrong when you're basically buying a previous model Savage 11/111.

Thats about what my Stevens 200 in 223 was shooting with that ammo. With handloads its certainly sub MOA out to 300 yards. I'v been going to buy a second 200 in .243 for a couple of months now but my cash keeps getting pulled to other necessities.
