I recently bought one and I am not sure if it is supposed to have some sort of barrel selector or not??? I have a 24H-DL, with the selector as part of the hammer. Can anyone shed any light on this old timer.

The selector was switched from the side of the receiver to the hammer in 1964, so your gun was made after that.

Like the Savage Guru says, they were changed mid-60's and for a reason. Early 24's selector parts were failing or falling out, so the new design helped in both respects. Have fun with your 24, they're a great little firearm.

It would appear that mine is missing something then, as it has not got any selector on the side, just a hole with a pin that seems to slide back and forth if you push it with a screwdriver.

Sounds like it may have been converted from the side selector to trigger selector, it's not all uncommon.
Big question is does it shoot or not?

A new selector isn't hard to find, Ebay is usually full of them.
