Stevens Model 425 Lever Action

I recently acquired a Stevens model 425 lever gun, chambered in 35 remington. I didn't know such a thing existed until I stumbled across this one. It's a sweet little rifle with side ejection and loading ports. It looks a bit like the marlin 336.

I read a wiki article and googled some old levergun forum chats, and learned Stevens made these from 1911 to 1917, before Savage bought the company.

Looking for knowledge, comments, loading advice, user experience, etc. from other 425 users or interested persons.

I didn't know about that one at The Gun Dealer, thanks. Appears to be a different rifle. I got mine from a private sale on the EE.

Very uncommon, but I do like them as well. I sold my first one and was always looking for a second. Finally able to get another yesterday in .35 Remington. They are really interesting rifles.

That gun was on my watchlist, they are not at all common, congrats on grabbing it.
Two things prevented my purchase - the possible headspace issue and the fact that other “wants” kept popping up before I could pull the trigger!

In the pic provided, the way the bolt drops on opening, almost resembles the action on the savage 99s.

I had one at one point and sold it regrettabley.
The action on the model 425 is quite capable for use with the intended cartridge. Avoid hot rodding reloads. These actions are not as strong as the Marlin actions.
Another common issue was the shell lifter actuator touching and the wood needing to be trimmed slightly to eliminate the issue. Yours may already be done.
Other than that they are a great rifle.
