Hello all. Not sure I'm using this forum right. But figured I'd ask the people if there is any gunsmiths in particular around the Calgary area that might be more into old bolt action shotguns as a specialty. I picked up this model 58C up yesterday at the gun show in Calgary and it does not fire.

I had a Stevens 58D that had some issues. Like yours, it did not fire. After some investigation, I found the slot for the striker and sear were way too tight. I draw filed out the sear slot in the receiver & it fired reliably after this go around. Is this one of the ones made toward the end of this model type? For some reason on my gun, it looked like the breech was largely a sealed unit.

It seems like everything is in order. When dry firing it sounds fine. After I took the bolt out and manually set of the firing pin it does stick out the end of the bolt face. However there is play in the bolt and if you compress the bolt the pin sticks out decently but if you stretch the bolt not much sticks out. I'll keep fiddling around. Worse case I'll bring it to a gun smith. Thanks for the reply appreciate any help I can get.

Yeah small dents. Found a guy who wants the gun, has a few spare parts for and wants to tinker. So I guys no loss except time, what can ya do. Thanks for all the help everyone I appreciate it.
