A friend of mine is about to buy a steyr mannlicher classic light used. Production year is (about) 1980. He was ask to bid on it but has no clue on what its worth.

Didnt find any dealer on CGN who sell it.

Condition is good to excellent. Bore has no pitting. Few scratch on stock.

Caliber is 30-06. Any help would be appreciated.

Is it the one in Vancouver with a Leupold 3-9x40?

The Classic Light didn't come out until the late '90's. In .30-06 the Steyr Model M is the one with the plastic rotary magazine, and the Luxus M is the one with the in-line metal magazine. The latter is worth much more (to me). Is it a full stock? What kind of mounts are on it?

Its not a full stock, aint the one in Vanvouver either. No info on mount, I havent seen it yet.

By looking at pictures on the net, we tought it was the classic light but could be a earlier model. Not a lot of info on it. The guy told us he had it since mid eighties.

Hoping to get just a price range to make a fair deal.

It makes a difference whether it is a regular Model M or a Luxus M. The mounts are important too, as they can be very expensive too. The comment about $500 is comical. A set of original Steyr mounts will set you back that much. You would be looking at $1000 and up.

The one in Vancouver is $1300 with a Leupold 3-9x40 - and it is a Luxus. That is a very good deal (depending on the condition of course).

Thanks guys! An offer of 800$ has been made, will see how it comes out!

My buddy really wanted it so he went for it, hope it turns out a fair deal for both of them.

I have a 1982 version of the .270 Win. Steyr Luxus with full wood and the Steyr 'quick release' mounts, Leupold VXIII 1.5x5 IR, in excellent condition, that I wouldn't part with for less than $2,300.00.

Gun and mounts alone...maybe $1,800.00

Just an owners perspective for you...these are excellent shooting rifles, mine easily puts 3 under a dime at 100yds. Well balanced, easy to carry, lovely action, and pretty to look at!

Jim

P.S. I also have the Steyr Classic in 7mm-08 and the Jeff Cooper Scout in .308 so I might be a little prejudiced :)

How about a pic of that i'venever seen one

I've never posted pictures of the Steyr before either, but not sure which one you are asking for a pic of...so here are the 3 of them.

The Mannlicher is wearing a Bushnell 3200 3x9 40mm just now since I'm taking the 7mm-08 with me this week and wanted the 1.5x5 IR on it for those longer tree lines at dusk...
