Hello I have a steyr hs50 which was sitting in storage for a period of time before I acquired it, and the bolt won't open. It rotates but not far enough for it to unlock and pull it back. Does anyone have any tips or tricks I can try to get it open? I have confirmed there is no brass inside the chamber

Here is a video of the issue and the play in the barrel http://www.mediafire.com/file/d6gaog7t1qdtdx1/IMG_4805-SD_480p.mov

thanks!

I think the best thing to do is say "stop" really loudly. Take a cleaning rod from the muzzle and make sure you don't have a loaded round in it. That bolt/barrel setup looks really strange, it appears the bolt handle is well foreword of where it should lock down. Wait for somebody with a steyr to pipe in before you get out the hammer!

Thanks, yeah Ill hold tight before I start smacking it for someone who might have some insight on this. I have confirmed there is no round in the chamber.

Good on yah. They make a fair bang, would wake the neighbors! Not sure about the steyr, but a lot of the other 50s you remove the bolt handle to remove the bolt, try unscrewing the bolt handle? Can't see how else you could get the bolt out, give it a go. Something sure ain't right with the loose barrel tho, hope you got it for a good price!

On the M1 version, if you remove the bolt handle and close the bolt too far, there is a lever inside the mechanism that will come up and prevent you from unlocking it.

I don't know if that's specifically the problem you are having......but if it is, you'd need to get something narrow to press it down.

On the M1, if you have small fingers you can press it down carefully through the magwell. On the regular version, I'm not sure how you'd do it.

A hammer is not the answer to this question.

I did not touch the screws this is exactly how I received it. Will probably take it to a gunsmith as it doesn’t look like an easy fix.

Any possibility of reattaching the 2 barrel screws? I suspect once the barrel is in place, you'll be able to work the bolt properly.

Yes its anti seize, it scared me when I first saw it but then saw how easily it wiped off and figured it was anti seize.
