Handled one today at a gun store, never seen one in person before and have to say I’m impressed. It was so ugly I loved it :D (actually I think it looks just fine). Ergonomic are top notch; the gun felt great in my hand and ‘triangle’ sights looked pretty nice. I think I might want one :)

So does anyone has one? How do you like it? How's the trigger (I didn’t it try it :()? Is it accurate?

Also I wondering both Steyer and Glock are very similar - made in Austria, cost roughly the same, but Glock is far more common and popular why is that? Is it just that Glock has been around for much linger? More aggressive advertising? :confused:

i think G37 has one if you do a search you can find a few of this threads on that gun...

i don't think the glocks are 100% made in austria like the steyr's.... i think glocks that are sold here in NA are made in Georgia, USA...

but yes, glock is very agressive in terms of marketing... you can see this in the LEO pricing thread...
 
I did a search… hmmm… that helped, but not in the way I hoped; seems like ‘few’ people don’t like them too much…

So what’s wrong with the trigger? :confused: how is it comparred to a Glock?

BTW does Wolverine sell the older M version or the new M-A1 (pic above)? On their website the picture looks like the older M version and it says 5in barrel, the gun I handled yesterday had a 106mm (4.13in) barrel. :confused: (I’d call them up and ask but hopefully someone can answer before the long weekend is over)
 
I agree on the ergos and handling qualities...at the dealer, the trigger seemed
very 'Glock-like' in terms of feel and weight of pull.
I was so impressed, that I plunked my money down on one (last week) and am now patiently waiting for the paperwork to clear.

anyways, G37 is a nice guy, met him at the local tac rifle match... i'm sure if you PM him he can tell you everything you want to know about that gun.... i've never shot the new one but i have shot the old version, and i quite like them, even the funky triangle sights, which a lot of people DON'T like.... but you can swap them out as G37 has done to dot (night) sights
 
I haven't shot one, but I handled one at Al Simmons Guns in Hamilton. (Great folks by the way). I didn't mind it and found that the funky sights pick up and track really fast. My brother fell in love with it, now he's trying to convince the other half he needs one.:)
 
Hey hey... I've owned an M9 in the past and now a M40-A1. Yep, almost everyone who fondles one (the new ones) say it is one of the best feeling pistols they've ever held.

What can I say... the only flaw is that they are not everywhere and spare parts when they are required might be a bit of a wait.

The story I heard was that the designer of the "M" actually worked at Glock and proposed the "M-Series" as the "New Glock" but was of course shut-down.
This individual then went to Steyr who took the idea/design and made them.
I don't know if this is true, but it's a cool story. They came out in the late 90's so it was almost impossible to play catch up to the Glock which had been out for a good decade or two before it.

The pistol is solid... accurate... very durable... the trigger is more consistent than the Glock trigger as well. Robust design, once you take it apart you will see what I mean (the polymer is just a shell to hold all the components - the rails CAN be removed (this is really cool)) Most people get into heated Glock vs Steyr debates, I love 'em both and they both have things that the other pistol lacks. If only they could merge the two.

If you want to swap sights, 'PT Night Sights' are making them for the Steyr's - I'd recommend a smith install them as I managed to get a steel punch mark on mine ;) (Wish I could go back in time and not be so impatient)

Mags will cost you in Canada ($40-$60each) - 10Rnds mags cost $9.99US in the USA if you are willing to try and work out an import.

Hmmmm... what else.

I'd say get it so that there will be more of 'em... I'd like for them to gain popularity.

You got yours from Wolverine right? On their website they show the older M model, do you know if they sell the older Steyr version or the new M-A1?

Also does yours Steyr have a manual safety (IIRC there are models with and w/out the safety)? and did you specify which version you want?
 
Yep, I got it from Wolverine. I see that P&D is also showing some.

I think Wolverine can get more of the new style ones and they probably have a supply of old ones remaining. Make sure to specify something like "The new A1 model, right?".

Mine doesn't have the manual safety.
The new ones I have seen do not have the manual safety (it's an option now)... but if you are ordering I'd also make sure that it doesn't have one (unless you want one).

How long did you have to wait for them to get you the M40-A1 model? Did they charge you extra (> than $750 - the M model's price?)

Also how accurate is it? say compared to a Glock?

The M40-A1 didn't take long... just depends if the supplier still has them.
I paid $800 for mine before taxes and shipping.

I just got back from the range... it's more accurate than I could ever be; here's a pic of a target I shot up this morning with it:

I was shooting Federal-American Eagle, Winchester Winclean, Winchester and UMC.
To my surprise the UMC was the most consistent and the POI was POA (yes, I was aiming at the bottom half of the circle).
I also had one failure to extract with the Winchester Winclean so I can't recommend that; the slide didn't travel all the way and left an empty case halfway in the chamber; definitely not my fault as I was very concious of my grip as I was going for accuracy.

Yes, the M40-A1 is a solid gun. The triangular sights do take some getting used to, and you either love em or hate em.

If anyone in the Montreal area would like to try one out, stop by CTM and try one out... we have them as "loaners".

Accuracy is very good, some poeple have already rigged themselves out to shoot IPSC production with it.
 
G37 what finish did your gun had before you had it redone? was it black/blued or was it green-gray as in the pic bellow (parkarised ??)

new steyr

Just bought one, 760 including tax. I went in to buy a CZ 75, tried the two out, and was impressed with the steyr. Took it to the range, and fired about 100 reloaded fmj, 124 gn with no problem at all. It even shoots straighter that me??? (But that's easy to do) It's light, accurate, and very comfortable. I even prefer the triangular sights, which take some getting used to.
I have a bernardelli, which looked and felt like the CZ, also in 9mm. So, rather that get two just about the same, I opted for the Steyr. Glad I did, so far.

Noggle where did you you get one for $740 :confused: was it used? I paid almost $800 and that doesn't even include tax :eek: or was it the older M model?
 
I bought one for the wife..Danger Deb and she took to it like a fish to water. very ergonomic and a great pointer...she even let me play with it for a while, My personal preferance is for the real steel handguns like 1911's and CZ's but I have to admit it is one of the nicest polymers I have ever played with and found it to be a natural pointer. If you like polymers I would say this is the gun for you. Got Her's at P&D Enterprises in Edmonton. Anyone know where to get a good deal on mags?
