Steyr M9-A1 question (loaded chamber indicator)

I recently picked up my new M9-A1 last weekend, and I just noticed that at the back end of the slide- it does NOT have the "loaded chamber indicator". Why is that? Did they redesign it?

This is a brand new pistol never been fired. I haven't taken out to the range yet. However when I got the pistol home and examined it- I noticed that the indicator is not there.

I realize this indicator is flushed until you #### the gun and a round is sitting on the chamber. But upon looking at it closer- I really don't see it.

Anyone?

Trying to remember from when I owned a M40-A1... the LCI is similar in appearance to a Firing Pin (located above the firing pin channel). Do you not see anything there?

If you do not have a LCI, consider yourself lucky. I hated the LCI on the Steyr; it marred the hell out of the brass and I believe it could be blamed for some ejection/feeding failures.
If they've stopped producing pistols with the LCI then it's a good thing and probably for the above issues.

Please, POST PICS!

I loved the pistol. I hated the LCI and manual safety (which they've also phased out, thankfully.)

If mags and spare parts became easy to obtain for these, along with the above revisions, I'd seriously consider one again.
Everything else on the gun is solid! Good score :)

Hi G37, thank you for the info. Looks like I got myself a 2nd generation M9-A1. Here are some pics of the back of the slide.....
