I just got an M95 and while installing the bolt (with the bolt head extended and "locked") the bolt head suddenly snapped out of the "locked" position with the bolt only half way in and now it's jammed! I mean JAMMED!!!
Does anybody have any suggestions? I can't figure this one out.

I know what you mean - I've had these bolts "snap back" in my hands a few times and did have one do it while inserting it. Tough to explain what I did other than it involved a careful look at the situation, and needlenose pliers with the jaws wrapped in electrical tape to avoid scratching.

Good luck - great gun.

P.S. will be at Switzers..

l'll keep playing with it, Andy. Needle nose pliers taped? Hehehe. Got a few of those - used to work as (for) an electrician... ZAP!
btw, was your jam pointing the bolt to the right a bit?

This one's simple .I had one brought into me a while back with the same problem.Take it out of the stock and take the trigger out and the bolt can be removed.Reasemble the rifle and start over.

I had a hunch this would be the way to go. I'll try that. Thanks!

Well, after getting the action out and removing the trigger, the bolt still stayed stuck, but after several rather violent wiggles and a few choice swear words it popped out... :D
She's all back together and functioning well. ;)

Hey, anybody ever do this? - I put the front band on before sliding the middle band on... DOH! :p

G'day Monty.
I just purchase a M95 and was wondering if you shoot cast or jacketed bullets. If jacketed, are they .329 and where/how much are they. If cast, what powder & load (expect they would be gas checked).
Cheers

I must be honest and say that I haven't shot this (heck, I just figured out how to install the bolt!), nor have I bought any ammo, nor have I started handloading, yet. I intend to build a handloading bench this summer and I'll be sure to post my findings... ;)
Keep in touch, though. I'll likely be asking you questions...

I have shot mine quite a bit with both jacketed and cast. Everything you need is readily available. I am assuming yours has a large "S" on the receiver, meaning it's in 8x56R Hungarian. Otherwise, it's in 8x50R and that's a whole other ball of wax. Then again there's the M95M, and M95/24 which are in 8x57. Let's assume 8x56R.

The dies are made by Lee, and Lee also makes a 0.329" cast bullet mold that accepts a gas check. I suggest Higginsons for Lee products. www.higginsonpowders.com

The brass is made by Graf, and Hornady makes 0.329" jacketed bullets. Go to www.bcredneck.com for them. Some people use the common 8mm bullets (0.323"), but in bores that can run to 0.331", they practically rattle down the bore.

When you get to the point where you are ready to reload, there is plenty out there and I'd be happy to share some of my loads (mostly cast in the 1900 fps range).

I'm going to look at 3 of these monday. 2 Carbines and a long rifle, which one is the 8x56? Whaddya reckon, worth 100 bucks?

M95 rifles were originally made in 8x50R and converted to 8x56R in 1931. 8x56R M95s will be marked with a prominent "S" stamp on the top of the chamber or with a large "H" in the same position if converted in Hungary (Austria and Hungary continued to use M95s after WW1)

I went and checked the one I was given " M95M " Now was that 318 bore or 323
? I guess I will have to slug it to be sure.Anybody need 8x56R dies.

That will be a 0.323" bore - standard 8x57 (8mm Mauser) stuff).

Make sure that the extractor is intact on the bolt and that the "clip" is present in the mag well. Without either it is a single shot affair. And NEVER drop a cartridge into the chamber and drive the bolt home - always either load from the mag, or carefully slip the cartridge under the extractor. If you do, you will break the extractor in short order and you will not find a replacement.
