So I currently have someone selling a few rifles. I sadly do not have any pictures yet and just a few details that have piqued my interest regarding one of them.

The owner tells me it is a Steyr M95 in 303 British and is apparently from the Boer War.

Google searches indicate it may be a Dutch Mannlicher that was rebarreled in the 50's to 303 Brit.

Anyone have any better guesses given those scant details? I'll post pics as soon as I get them in a week or two.

Assuming at this point the owner isn't mistaken I think JTF is on to something.
For now I'll say it's probably an M95 Indonesian.

Thanks for the help. I'll post pics when I get them.

It is unlikely but:

The Dutch issued Schwarzlose M.07/12 to their army prior to WW1 and issued a Mannlicher M95 in 8mm for ammunition compatibility.

If the rifle is in .303 I would suspect an Indonesian modification.
If it is in an 8mm cartridge I would suspect a Dutch modification.
The Netherlands adopted the Austro-Hungarian Schwarzlose M.07/12 machine gun in 6.5x53Rmm and later changed them to an 8mm cartridge.

If I remember correctly the 8mm cartridge is just the 8x57Rmm cartridge. A number of rifles were converted to this cartridge for the machine gun crews for ammunition compatibility. They also used a Lewis machine gun in 8x57Rmm. (7.9, 7.92)

The Swedes’ did the same thing when they adopted the 8x63mm cartridge for their machine guns. They used a modified K-98 with a 4 shot magazine and a muzzle break.
