Steyr-Mannlicher M1895 are they any good?

Has anybody lost a finger or get disfiguired shooting this rifle?

Silly question. How can an amputee dead man reply?

For what's its worth, the Germans converted a lot of rifles made by their allies the Austrians, to 8mm Mauser. It can't be all bad.

I shoot a ross and now I'm diggin the other straight pull bolt rifles such as this one and the K31. Just have to sneak these rifles past the wife. She thinks they all look the same anyway.

Just do what I do. Any package arrives, I say 'oh, just parts'. No one's ever thought to question why the parts for rifles I'm receiving are as big as whole rifles. It's better than the eye rolls I'd otherwise feel

Up until recently that worked for me too but my wife has caught on to the gig.Lucky for me she likes pulling the odd trigger as well so things are OK at least for now.And by the way in keeping with the topic at hand,I absolutely love these rifles.I had a couple of these babies back in the day that I used to load for using fireformed 7.62X54R Mosin-Nagant cases.Ended up selling them along with most of my accumulation a number of years ago. With the recent acquisition of a M95 short rifle I'm back in the game.I'm using PRVI brass and .330 dia. bullets to crank out new rounds,so much easier these days as far as availability of components goes..Love the bark out of them, especially at dusk when you really notice the muzzle flash.

I bought my M95 Stutzen on a whim, and I'm glad I did. I managed to track down a heap of Ball ammo at a local gunshop for a decent price.

I could never get it to shoot until I shot it with the bayonet attached. Recoil is stout, but tolerable as long as you hold on to the rifle in the correct manner...

...and lets debunk a few myths...
-the 7.92x57mm conversions were carried out by Yugoslavia (M95M), and Greece (M95/24).
-All 8x56R M95s in Austrian stocks were sold/given to Bulgaria in 1940 by Germany, along with all the 8x56R ammo. Any that were still in 8x50R were put in German use by Police and Volksturm.

Wear glasses when shooting them, you will get a face full o'crap if you rupture a primer, they lack good gas venting. Other than that, go nuts.
