Any with any opinions or comments on this rifle? Preferably an owner.

I have and intend to keep a Steyr Scout, and the Prohunter seems to have most of the same goodies for a lot less money.

i've always wanted one, there is one at local gun shop that has been on display for several years. I just recently took a look at it and the action felt terrible, didn't operate smoothly at all. Now this doesn't correlate at all to what i've read about the steyr, i've read/heard nothing but good things. So, maybe the one i handled had a problem. FWIW the only one in my area is a 30-06 and they want $1150. Too much for me considering it looks used because its been on the shelf for so long and the action felt terrible. Again, the action could be a problem only on that particular rifle. So, anyways not sure if any of this is useful, but maybe 604shooter can comment on his action and how it feels.

I almost got one, but this plastic wheel safety wasn't up to my standards, to complicated to use. I like Remington, Sako or Tikka safety.
The quality of the rifle is good and wood selection nice.

Great rifles, I have had a couple of them. They are not as smooth as the previous series from Steyr (SL, L, M, etc).

They shoot very well and I personally love the ergonomics of the stock.

The safety is very simple to use and arguably one of the best designs for hunting applications as it can essentially be locked up. I do know of one that did freeze up on a goat hunt due to the tight tollerences between the safety and the stock. Something to be aware of.

My buddy has one and I shot it a couple of weeks back. Solid sub MOA rifle. My groups were just a hair over a half inch at 100 with 180 gr Federal cheapies. The rifle is nice and light and the action and trigger were great. I must say that I hate the safety. Whoever dreamed it up needs a smack. I can't imagine actuating it in the cold or with gloves on. Nor would it be conducive to use for a snap shot due to it being so slow and difficult to actuate.

Other than that, it's a great rifle.
