STG-44 /22lr version

Thread on it in the Blueline Forum.

No news from the RCMP apparently, as it is still under review 2 years later.

Makes absolutely no ####ing sense to me.

This is absolute proof that the RCMP is anti gun and is just attempting to deter importers from attmpting to bring in anything new.

Even here in draconian gun-law UK the StG44 is just like any other .22 rifle. As are all the other look-alikes, even the UZI. They are totally legal and totally fun to own and shoot by anybody who has the appropriate license.

What happens if the firearm is absolutely new to Canada but is not a prohibited class and is not on the Prohibited list. Will it be allowed for possession/shooting/selling?

If that is the case yes, but the RCMP have a history of calling such rifles "Variants" of the original rifles, and in this case that original STG44 is a prohib. If the RCMP determine this new rifle is a "Variant" of the original then it will also become prohib.

Problem is there is no definition of "Variant", and the RCMP have in the past called several guns "Variants" despite having absolutely nothing in common with the original other than looks. The S&W MP22 is a perfect example. It doesn't function like an AR 15, and has not a single part in common, but the RCMP called the S&W MP22 an AR15 "Variant".

The variant classification is an issue if there is a named restricted or prohibited firearm. The STG44 isn't a named prohib. It is prohibited because one would be either 12-2 or 12-3.
The only applicable issue would be ease of auto conversion, within the Hasselwander standard.

Of course, there is also the possibility that the SFSS just doesn't want to approve it for importation, and is just stalling the process. Easiest way to deal with a situation - just do nothing. After several years, maybe the thing will just go away.

Incidentally there is some garbage in this thread, unrelated to this rifle. The posters can clean up their trash, and save it from being dumped.

I handled one in Bangor M.E. at the Maine Military Surplus and they are very nice. Cost around $600.00 U.S. I do not know whats wrong with the RCMP Gestapo on this one. Probably has something to do with Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Most likely the Free Masons or the Knights Templar are controlling this but it is nothing that a envelope full of payola on the ninth tee cant fix.
