Well I’ve heard some more progress of the STG 44 from HM gunworks in the usa. These guys have been developing this rifle for a few years now and are building it from original blueprints. A lot of the original STG 44 parts fit directly on to this replica. Their working on an interchangeable system that can fire 300 BLK, 5.56, 7.62X39 and original 7.92X33 Kurz rounds. This is an awesome idea and in its final stages. I personally want to own the 7.62 flavour to feel the original kick at an affordable firing price. These guys have done an amazing job reproducing this historic firearm using original documents from the 3rd Reich. Not an easy task for a small company. I’ve contacted them directly to advise them of the Canadian market and for them to contact the rcmp regarding import. I really hope they listen and get these rifles to Canada. I know there are a lot of collectors here who would jump on this work of art. Some might think it’s pricey at $1800 US, but look at what your getting. Most surviving STG’s go for $20K + in the states and the earlier versions like the MP 43 stamp goes for more. So to me $2500 Canadian is really peanuts for an authentic replica. If anyone is interested I suggest you contact HM gunworks (HMG) and hopefully with enough requests they will make an effort. Checkout this rifle and just look at the craftsmanship these guys did, absolutely awesome! I’m in if they come to Canada!

I doubt any parts interchange. Some CETME parts maybe.

They do on the Kurz model. On the other flavours only cosmetic parts. But on the Kurz the bolt works from original to replica. Like I said these rifles are built from 3rd Reich blueprints and hold patents. Look at the build videos and contact Mac at HMG.
Regardless of that I hope they make it here as I’ve got an original butt stock, hand guard and sights in my Reich collection. Would be awesome to slap them on a functioning replica.

I have a BD44,which is as close a copy of the original STG44 as you will see,I would even bet on it that the stamped parts were made on the original dies from WWII,and I say this because I can lay my deactivated MP43 beside it and will see no difference at all.The BD44 turned out to be a troublesome beast ,broke the ears of the bolt,SSD would not do a thing so I ended up replacing all the internals with WWII parts(thank you GB and ebay)
So looking at pictures of the HMG rifle I would say it's very unlikely parts would interchange, for instance the recoil spring is hardly visible on the original one and on the HMG it's in the open.
Just my two cents.

Shame the Libyans sold theirs to the Syrians.Seeing the dummies throwing them in a pile in the back of a truck is painful.

As much as I would like the HMG project to happen it is pure vaporware at this point. If you actually want a STG44 replica either pick up the GSG repro in .22 for a fun plinker or save up a bit and get one of the SSD replicas.

Forgotten Weapons recently did a video partly about HMG. Basically their stg44 is no where to be seen yet after 2~3 years of a working prototype (2016~2017). I assume it's because they are still working all the kinks out, but it's definitely going slowly.

Maybe Canadian Market will be more generous? I could see a multi-caliber rifle in 5.56/x39 capable of using 10 round mags justify the $2000CND-ish price tag.

Yes it’s been a huge struggle for them, probably due to financial issues as their a small outfit and the costs of patents aren’t cheap either. I don’t believe they will abandon the project, their to far in to it and have working rifles. To me I believe they struggling with the multi caliber setup. That is a huge task in a rifle configuration and I give them credit for taking it on, but maybe they should of just stuck to a 7.62 flavour. As for parts interchangeability, we all know non of the full auto stuff will work as that’s a big no no even down there. So their redesigning that part of the rifle so guys just can’t drop full auto parts in. However I still luv the concept and design and will give them my support and have so a few times now. They need encouragement and people willing to purchase the rifle. Hopefully their just on hold due to funds and will continue once some investors free up some money. Worst case they sell their patents and someone else picks up where they left off. I like my GSG STG44, but the dam thing breaks the spring guide rod and have a hard time finding parts. Just want one with a closer caliber to the original.

7.92x33 is widely available, not sure why they'd want to reinvent the wheel - they could sell at least a few thousand guns to pay for development costs and it would give people an idea of what they're planning, and probably create a market for their frankengun. Different strokes, I guess.
